  • Introduction:(2010 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair)

Exhibitor numbers more than doubled in 2009, representing 34 countries and regions

The second edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International wine & spirits Fair was a triumph. Exhibitor numbers more than doubled to 525, representing 34 countries and regions. Buyer numbers increased by 36% with almost 12,000 buyers from 62 countries & regions.

Hong Kong is rapidly maturing as Asia’s wine trading and distribution hub, with unrivalled access to the Chinese mainland market and this fair is its keystone event. Success in 2009 confirms this, with the fair attracting market leaders in wine and spirits distribution in the region, as well as winemakers and purveyors of wine, spirits, beer and other beverages.

The fair is also an effective showcase for products and services related to production and logistics of alcoholic beverages, accessories and equipment, wine education, wine investment, wine tourism and gourmet food products.

    The excitement continues in 2010

The fair encompasses both the Old and New Worlds of wine production. France was the first partner country in 2009; Australia will be the partner country in 2010.

Multicultural participation and world-class events lift the fair from a regional marketplace to an international wine industry must-attend.

    Market intelligence on tap

The public may enter on the last day, turning the fair into a two-way channel through which market intelligence flows to exhibitors and greater wine knowledge flows to consumers. In 2009, more than 12,000 members of the public visited the fair.

Public visitors can interact with exhibitors, explore the educational wine Gallery, enter lucky draws and, like trade buyers, join in voting game for ‘The Most Beloved wine & spirits’. They may also obtain redemption vouchers for corkage-free privileges at various restaurants in Hong Kong.

    Trade buyers attracted

Success of the Hong Kong International wine & spirits Fair is generating its own momentum but organiser Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)recognises that the pool of trade buyers is enlarging year by year. HKTDC is using all its worldwide resources and marketing expertise developed over four decades to reach these buyers, through advertising campaigns, direct mail and other tools.

    Only in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong International wine & spirits Fair is the key to the rapidly growing Asian market.

Hong Kong is the first major economy in the world to impose no duty and no sales tax on wine.

    • Hong Kong is the logical distribution point for the Chinese mainland market, which is forecast to reach US$870 million within the next decade.
    • The Chinese mainland and Hong Kong account for more than 60% of the Asian wine market. As one market they are expected to become the world’s eighth largest market for wine.
    • Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland wine investors account for some 40% of investment wines stored in the United Kingdom, some 100 million cases of wine.
