    The 4th plast expo from 6-9 April 2011 - a gateway for valuable business contacts in North-Africa

    More than 2,500 trade visitors from 30 countries and 120 exhibitors expected

    Excellent news: in 2009, the organisers have “earned the ‘UFI Approved Event’ quality label for plast expo as certification of the highest level of professional exhibition standards” (UFI The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry).

    Against the backdrop of massive investments into the North-African plastics and packaging industry and a huge increase in demand for plastics and chemical products, the Moroccan plastics Association AMP in cooperation with Forum 7 and fairtrade now organise plast expo 2011.
    Under the auspices of the Moroccan ministry of industry and trade and the ministry of foreign trade, the 4th International plastics, rubber, Composites, packaging and Conditioning Trade Fair for Morocco and North Africa is scheduled to be held at the Casablanca International Fairgrounds on 6 to 9 April 2011.
    plast expo, a bi-annual event, works out successfully as the Euro-Mediterranean gateway to Africa. At plast expo 09, for instance, 102 exhibitors from 19 countries met and discussed business with 2,058 registered trade visitors from 27 states. Exhibitors especially welcomed the initiative of AMP and the Moroccan state agency for export promotion, Maroc Export , who had successfully put a hosted-buyers’ program into effect. As a result, high-profile trade visitors from Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Tunisia could be welcomed to discuss business with plast expo 09 exhibitors.

    For plast expo 2011, this hosted–buyers’ program is even to be extended. As such, the organisers count on more than 2,500 trade visitors from 30 countries and 120 exhibitors. In addition to many international market leaders, some official pavilions will be back, the official Austrian pavilion for instance, the Valencia Association of plastics Producers for Spain and many others.
    For the upcoming event in 2011, the organisers are determined to add even more value to the show. In cooperation with the AHK network of German chambers of commerce in Algiers, Casablanca and Tunis, the organisers have built-up an excellent database in order to get in direct personal touch with the decision-makers in the Maghreb and other French-speaking African countries. A vast direct-marketing campaign has been tailored to bring even more high-profile trade visitors to the event!

    Markets on upswing

    Production and turnover of the North-African and African plastics industry are on a steady upswing, with double-digit growth rates in 2009 as well as in the past few years. The Moroccan plastics industry, for instance, counts 35,000 employees, and has generated a turn-over of Euro 740 million in 2009. According to AMP, the Moroccan plastics Industry Association, the target is to triple this turnover between 2010 and 2020, to then Euro 2.3 billion.

    In Algeria as well, the plastics industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Algerian industry, and one of the most important ones. Its growth is driven manifold: by huge governmental projects and infrastructural investments (hydraulics, building and construction, energy, agriculture, gas tubes for Sonelgaz, …), as well as by industrial sub-contracting and the demand for packaging materials.  It consists of some 1 000 enterprises, among them subsidiaries of heavyweights such as Sonatrach, Enip, Iap, Enpc, but mostly of small and medium sized private enterprises. Around 40% of them are active in injection, 20 % in extrusion, the rest in the fast-growing packaging and plasticulture sectors. The workforce stands at around 20,000.
    With an annual consumption of 1 million tons, half of which being imported from Asia and Europe, the Algerian plastics market has an enormous potential. The per capita consumption stands between 8 to 10 kg. Between 2005 and 2007, 370.000 tons of diverse plastics products had been imported, worth US$ 600 million. Nowadays the demand is estimated at 300.000 tons per year, for all applications.

    Exhibitors can register for three different options:

    Option 1 – raw exhibition space.
    The minimum stand area is 24 sqm.

    Option 2 – exhibition space including booth construction, Octanorm standard.
    The minimum stand area is 12 sqm.

    Option 2 includes the following standard features
    of modular booth construction:
      Stand area with carpet
      Side and back walls
      1 spot 100W per 3 sqm of stand space
      1 table and 4 chairs (as an example for a 12 sqm stand)
      1 wastepaper basket
      1 socket 220V, 1kW
      Fascia with company name

    Option 3 – outdoor exhibition area.
    The minimum stand area is 24 sqm.
