  • Introduction:(New York Wine Expo 2012)

    The New York wine Expo is a three-day exposition catering to both the general public and the trade in the nation’s hub. Over 3,000 consumers are anticipated to attend on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Sunday is dedicated solely to the trade with an additional 3,000 trade representatives expected. Liquor licensees from throughout the region will be invited to attend on Sunday along with guests of the co-located International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York.

    wine 101: Taste Like a Pro with wine Spectator
    Explore grapes and wine styles as you taste eight wines from around the world, learn the tasting techniques used by pros and build a wine appreciation framework that you will use for the rest of your life. Naww... It’s just smushed grapes.) In this lively seminar, wine Spectator's Director of Education, Gloria Maroti Frazee, will attempt to cover everything you’ve always wanted to know about wine, but were afraid to ask... including the key buzzwords for describing wine, stemware, decanting and storage as well as tips for saving leftover wine, food pairing and ordering wine in a restaurant. Whether you're a beginner or experienced wine drinker, you’ll have fun, learn a lot, and take home handouts that you can use to do tastings on with friends.

    “Châteauneuf-du-Pape: History in a Bottle” with Alain Junguenet & John Junguenet
    The past 700 years in and around Avignon, France have seen a long list of Kings, Queens and Popes come and go. Throughout the high times and low times, the crazy and the calm, a tough breed of man has remained a integral part of Provence’s history: le Vigneron. (the winemaker) Join ‘Mr. Châteauneuf-du-Pape’, Alain Junguenet and his son, John, on a journey through the history of the Southern Rhône through 10 wines possessing significant links to many important events in the area’s history. Were the Romans really making wine in Provence? Who were the Templar Knights and why did the King Phillip order their assassination? How many Popes lived in Avignon and which played that largest role in the development of winemaking? These and many more questions will be discussed during this educational and enlightening seminar! Let’s not forget to mention the incredible wines we will be tasting, which include: Cros de Romet, Bosquet des Papes (1996!), Château Fortia, Le Vieux Donjon, Clos des Papes, the legendary Henri Bonneau ‘Réserve des Célestins’ and more!

You may have heard about these wines but have never had a chance to taste them.   Learn about the areas, the soils, the small family-owned producers and the wines; and taste some of Italy’s finest.  Whether you’re a novice or a connoisseur, this seminar is for you! The session ends with a tasting of a 96 point wine that was number 31 on wine Spectator’s Top 100 List!
